It limits to the north with the commune of Losone, to the east with the city of Locarno, to the south with Gambarogno, and to the west with Ronco sopra Ascona, Brissago and Centovalli.
The place is known for being a tourist destination, being on the shores of Lake Maggiore, the city also gave the name to the German car Opel Ascona.
