It borders to the northwest and north with the commune of Centovalli, to the northeast with Ascona and Ronco sopra Ascona, to the east (on the other side of Lake Maggiore) with Gambarogno, to the southeast with Pino sulla Sponda from Lake Maggiore (IT-VA) and Tronzano Lake Maggiore (IT-VA), to the south with Cavaglio-Spoccia (IT-VB), and to the southwest with Cannobio (IT-VB).

The complex of Sacro Monte de la Dolorosa (or "Sacro Monte Doloroso") of Brissago, Switzerland is located on a rocky promontory overlooking Lake Maggiore and is located in a narrow valley called the "Valley of the Mills", one kilometer away over the town. The space includes the church of La Dolorosa and the chapel of Calvario Brissago.
