newAachen Cathedral
The Aachen Cathedral (in German Aachener Dom and in French Cathédrale d'Aix-la-Chapelle) is a cathedral located in the German city of Aachen, west of the country and a few kilometers from the border with Belgium and the Netherlands.
Aachen Cathedral is considered the oldest cathedral in northern Europe. Its origin dates back to the Palatine Chapel built by the Frankish Emperor Charlemagne at the end of the 8th century. From this original nucleus, the temple was growing and enlarging during the following centuries until forming the current set, which is a conglomerate of very different architectural styles.
Aachen Cathedral was one of the first 12 places included in the Unesco World Heritage list, chosen in 1978.

newAachen Palace
The Aachen palace was a whole group of residential, political and religious buildings that were erected by Emperor Charlemagne as the center of Carolingian power. The palace in question was located in the current city of Aachen in western Germany, in the current federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The essential parts of the Carolingian palace were built in the last decade of the 8th century, but the works continued until the death of Emperor Charlemagne himself in 814.
The designer of the plans of the palace was Eudes de Metz, inscribing the work within the program of political renovation of the kingdom, longed for and stimulated by the emperor Charlemagne himself.
Most of the palace was destroyed over the centuries, but the palatine chapel still remains, which is considered one of the treasures of Carolingian architecture, as well as a characteristic example of the typical architecture of the so-called Carolingian Renaissance. The chapel, next to the Aachen Cathedral, is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 1978.

newPalatine Chapel (Aachen)
The palatine chapel of Aachen is an all-medieval chapel and remaining component of Charlemagne's palace in Aachen, in what is now Germany. Although the palace no longer exists, the chapel was preserved and now forms the central part of the Aachen cathedral. It is the most important landmark of Aachen and a central monument of the Carolingian Renaissance. The chapel contained the remains of Charlemagne. Later the Ottonians appropriated it and the coronations were held there from the year 936 until 1531.
As part of the Aachen Cathedral, the chapel is designated as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
