Saxon Switzerland
Saxon Switzerland (in German, Sächsische Schweiz) is a small natural region of Germany located in the easternmost part of the federated state of Saxony. It occupies a large part of the district that bears his name: Saxon Switzerland District.
Saxon Switzerland is a mountainous climbing area and a national park around the Elbe Valley, southeast of Dresden. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic, it forms the Elbe sandstone mountains. Only Saxon Switzerland has about 1,000 climbing peaks, as well as several chasms. The area is popular with Dresden locals and international climbers and offers various tourist hiking options in their natural surroundings. The Königstein fortress is a well-known landmark.
The name of Sächsische Schweiz began to be used in the 18th century at the initiative of the two Swiss artists Adrian Zingg and Anton Graff who named it that when they traveled to the area, as it reminded them of their native Switzerland, especially the mountain range of the Swear
