Karl Marx Monument
The Karl Marx Monument (in German, Karl-Marx-Monument) is a stylized bust of Karl Marx of 7.10 m (with support of more than 13 meters) high and about 40 tons of plastic High strength, built by Lev Kerbel. It is the most famous monument in the city of Chemnitz and is located in the center of the city on the bridge road near the crossroads of the nations road in eastern Germany. This monument is, after the bust of Lenin in Ulan-Ude, which is more than 60 cm taller, the second largest bust in the world.
On October 9, 1971, the monument to the author of the Communist Manifesto was inaugurated in front of about 250,000 people who are at the forefront of the monument along Karl-Marx-Allee (popularly known as "Nischelgasse"). Present at the inauguration of the new symbol of the city were, among others, Erich Honecker and Robert-Jean Longuet, grandson of Karl Marx. The symbol of the city of Karl-Marx-Stadt was also a reason for frequent use of the stamp of 35 cents of the German Democratic Republic.
