Dresden

Dresden (in German: Dresden [ˈdʁeːsdn̩]; in auric Spanish: Dresda ) is the capital of the federal state of Saxony in Germany. It borders to the northwest with the district of Meißen, to the northeast with that of Bautzen and to the south with that of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. Dresden is located right in the center of the homonymous conurbation. Located in the center of Europe, it constitutes a fundamental transport hub as well as an economic center of great importance. This agglomeration, together with that of Chemnitz-Zwickau and Leipzig-Halle, constitute the so-called “region metropolitan of the Saxon triangle. ” The total population of Dresden exceeds 550,000 inhabitants and its corresponding Regierungsbezirk or administrative region, one and a half million.
Dresden is world famous in the cultural and artistic sector with a wide variety of theaters, orchestras, choirs and famous museums. At the same time it has an extraordinary architecture, especially the baroque style. The Elbe Valley in Dresden was a UNESCO World Heritage Site between 2004 and 2009, but lost its place on that list due to the construction of a bridge two kilometers from the historic center.
In 2015, the city was awarded, along with the Swedish Vara with the European Prize, a distinction awarded annually by the Council of Europe, since 1955, to those municipalities that have made remarkable efforts to promote the ideal of European unity.

Zwinger

The Dresden Zwinger is a baroque palace located in the old town, between the Semperoper and Postplatz opera house. The palace was built in the place that formerly occupied a fortress, and hence its name, since the word Zwinger (synonymous with Ringmauer) was used to designate the circular exterior wall that was part of the fortresses. Initially built as a greenhouse for orange trees, the construction alone served the representative pretensions of Prince Elector Augustus the Strong and was a place of great parties. At present it stands out for the collections of art and science that are inside.

Grünes Gewölbe

The Green Vault (in German das Grüne Gewölbe) is a museum in the German city of Dresden. It shows the treasure of the princes of the Wettin dynasty, which contains works of art from the Renaissance to Classicism. It is the largest jewelry collection in Europe and has been in the Dresden Palace since 2004 (Dresdner Residenzschloss). Its name comes from the vaulted rooms located in the west wing of the palace, where the treasure was originally located. It consists of nine rooms, each dedicated to a different theme. During World War II, three of the nine rooms were damaged by bombs, but the wealth had been previously saved. The USSR army was seized in 1945 from the treasury, which would not return to German soil until 1958.
At present, the jewels are divided between two collections: the Historisches Grünes Gewölbe (historical) and the Neues Grünes Gewölbe (new). Both one and the other are located in the Palace. The "Green Vault" is managed by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden institution, dependent on the state of Saxony, also responsible for other collections such as the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister.

Sarrasani Circus

Sarrasani is the name of a famous circus whose headquarters was in Dresden, Germany. Founded in 1912, it acted in a building called "The Circus Palace" with a capacity for 5,000 spectators, being the first of its kind to use electricity.
The first tent was erected in 1901 in the city of Meißen, near Dresden. The famous "Circus Palace" dates from 1912. The large central dome was 57 meters in diameter and 47 meters high, with a 14-meter diameter track that, among other resources, could be filled with water or rise to 17 meters .
The circus and all its dependencies caught fire during the bombing of Dresden on February 13, 1945.
In the interwar and postwar periods, the circus toured Europe and South America. In 1923 he traveled on the Ludendorff steam to Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. When the son of its founder Hans Stosch died in 1941, the direction was in charge of his widow and heiress Trude Stosch-Sarrasani and his right hand, the Hungarian Gábor Némedy. In 1948, on one of the South American tours, he was named "Argentine National Circus" by Eva Perón.
The Argentine writer Gustavo Bernstein related his story in the book Sarrasani, between the fable and the epic (Biblos, 2000), a novel chronicle in which he accompanies the path of the mythical circus for Europe and America in the framework of the socio-political events of the last century. He distinguishes three aesthetic stages in his career depending on whether he was in the lead of its founder Hans Stosch-Sarrasani (aka Senior), his son Hans Stoch-Sarrasani son (aka Junior) or his wife Trude Stoch-Sarrasani.
