Zeppelin Museum
The Zeppelin museum in the southern German city of Friedrichshafen on the shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee) tells the story of the Zeppelin airships in the city where they were created. The museum, located in the old port terminal (Hafenbahnhof), was opened in 1996.
The centerpiece of the museum is a reconstruction of a 33-meter section of the Hindenburg LZ 129 airship, created by the company Zeppelin GmbH.
The lower level (Deck B) of the reconstruction includes the toilets and the smoking room (not accessible to visitors).
The upper level (Deck A) includes the writing room, the lounge, the promenade and some passenger rooms.
The airship parts included in the exhibit include an engine gondola of the Graf Zeppelin LZ 127 airship and the front bow portion of the Hindenburg LZ 130 airship, the latter being rescued from the fire at the Lakehurst air station, New York on disaster day .
The museum contains an archive and a research library. The upper floor of the museum exhibits paintings and illustrations of southern German art unrelated to the history of the Zeppelin.
