Greifswald University
The University of Greifswald (in German: Universität Greifswald; also known as Alma Mater Gryphiswaldensis, Universitas Gryphiswaldensis or Academia Gryphica) is a university based in the Hanseatic city of Greifswald, in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania about 200 km north of Berlin.
Founded on October 17, 1456, it is one of the oldest universities in the world, the fourth oldest in Germany and the second oldest in the Baltic region.
Two thirds of its 12,300 students come from other regions of Germany. The city of Greifswald is a typical university city, a "university with a city around". According to a study conducted in 2008, Greifswald constitutes the most "dynamic" and "youngest" city in all of Germany.
