Sassnitz (until 1993 Saßnitz) is a German city in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Located on the Jasmund Peninsula, on the east coast of the island of Rügen (54 ° 31′N 13 ° 38′E). The population in 2015 was 9,560 inhabitants.
It is a very popular city, located next to the Jasmund National Park that has the only zoo in Rügen.
The unarmed British submarine HMS Otus was bought by a German businessman, towed to Sassnitz and turned into a floating museum.
