Weimar
Weimar is a city of the federated state of Thuringia in Germany, known for its rich cultural heritage. It is located on the banks of the River Ilm and at the foot of the Ettersberg mountain north of the Thuringian Forest. The city is divided into thirteen districts.
Weimar was the center of the Bauhaus movement. The work of the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau were named a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996.
All the buildings known as Classic Weimar were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, highlighting the high artistic quality of both the buildings and the public and private parks in the city and its surroundings, which testify to the remarkable cultural flowering of the classical period in Weimar. The patronage of the Dukes of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach attracted many prominent writers and scholars from Germany, making Weimar the main European cultural center of the time.
The city was selected European Capital of Culture in 1999.

newWeimar Palace
Weimar Palace (in German: Schloss Weimar) is located in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany. Now it is called Stadtschloss to distinguish it from other palaces of Weimar and its surroundings. It was the residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach, and was also called Residenzschloss, Palace of the Grand Dukes or City Palace. It is located at the northern end of the municipal park on the banks of the Ilm River, the Park an der Ilm. It is part of the Unesco World Heritage Site, known as "Classic Weimar".
Throughout its history, it has been damaged by fire on different occasions. The 17th-century baroque palace, with the church where several works by Johann Sebastian Bach were premiered, was replaced by a neoclassical structure after the fire of 1774. Four rooms were dedicated to poets who worked in Weimar: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Gottfried Herder, Friedrich Schiller and Christoph Martin Wieland. Since 1923, the building houses the Palace Museum (Schlossmuseum), a museum focused on painting from the 15th and 16th centuries and works of art related to Weimar, a cultural center.
