The Würzburg Residence (in German: Residenz or Würzburger Residenz) is a construction belonging to the Baroque located in the old part of the German city of Würzburg (Würzburg); It began in 1719 and was completed in 1780.
Its function was mainly to serve as residence for the bishops of Würzburg. The castle is part of the most important works of German Baroque with comparable importance, at European level, with the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna and the Palace of Versailles in Paris.
The Wurzburg Residence, court gardens and Residence Square were declared a World Heritage Site in 1981. According to the Unesco website (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Social Organization Culture), this magnificent baroque palace, one of the largest and most beautiful in Germany, and surrounded by wonderful gardens, was created by the patronage of princes-bishops Lothar Franz and Friedrich Carl von Schönborn. It was built and decorated in the 18th century by an international team of architects, painters (including Tiépolo), sculptors and stuccoists, directed by Balthasar Neumann. Two places are protected:
