Church of San Sebastián (Alhaurín de la Torre)
The Parish Church of San Sebastián is a temple of Catholic worship located in Alhaurín de la Torre, province of Málaga, Spain.
This building is the only church in Alhaurín de la Torre and is located in the Plaza de la Concepción. Although the building was built in 1610, the parish of San Sebastián had previously been founded by the Archbishop of Seville at the request of Queen Isabel the Catholic, under a Commission granted by Apostolic Letters and Bulls of Pope Innocent VIII.
After being destroyed by an earthquake, it was rebuilt in the mid-nineteenth century in neoclassical style at its Latin cross floor, three naves and two bell towers, although the niche of Our Father Jesus is baroque. The reason why San Sebastián was chosen as patron is attributed to the devotion of the Catholic Monarchs for the saint who, given his holiness, eternal youth and military skills, proved to be the most appropriate in times of strife and struggle during the Reconquest.
From this church the thrones of the different brotherhoods leave during Holy Week: the Royal Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Nazareno del Paso and Mary Most Holy of Sorrows, traditionally known as Los Moraos, and the Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Vera Vera and Our Lady of Solitude, known as Los Verdes.
