Altea is a Spanish municipality in the province of Alicante (Valencian Community) - and also the municipal capital - located in the Marina Baja region, on the Mediterranean coast of the bay of Altea, south of Calpe and north of Alfaz del Pi. It had 21 995 inhabitants (INE 2018).
The town of Altea is part of the Douzelage, a European twinning plan between various cities in countries that are members of the European Union.
In addition, it holds the official title of Cultural Capital of the Valencian Community.
In Altea there is the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Miguel Hernández University.

The Algar River is a short coastal river (12.2 km) from the south east of the Iberian Peninsula, a river that flows into the Mediterranean Sea and runs through the province of Alicante.
Born in the Sierra del Ferrer, in the term of Callosa de Ensarriá, forming the Algar Fountains, which constitute a recreational and swimming area with numerous waterfalls.
Receive as tributaries the Bolulla River and the Guadalest River. However, from the incorporation of the Guadalest, the waters of the channel are reduced considerably due to the subtraction of water for irrigation.
Finally, the river flows into the Mediterranean Sea, in the municipality of Altea. The final stretch of the river has a typical Mediterranean promenade conformation.

The bay of Altea is a small bay of the Spanish Mediterranean coast, an inlet of the Costa Blanca between the municipalities of Altea and Alfaz del Pi, in the region of the Marina Baixa (province of Alicante, Valencian Community).
Limited by cliffs, to the north by the Morro de Toix and to the south by the Bombarda point, the coastal front with about 10 kilometers is of low coast, with beaches and coves. It is heavily urbanized for residential housing for tourist use. The Algar river flows into the bay (12.2 km). La Olla and Pila islets are located near the coast.
