Cuenca (Spain)
Cuenca is a Spanish municipality belonging to the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha and a city, capital of the homonymous province. It is located somewhat north of the geographical center of the province, at an average altitude of 946 meters above sea level and its extensive municipal area, of about 911 km², is one of the largest in Spain. The municipality had a registered population of 54 898 inhabitants (INE, 2018).
Although in the surroundings of the city there is evidence of population from the Upper Paleolithic, it is not until the Muslim conquest when the fortress of Qūnka is built, which gave rise to the current city. This was counted , in origin, among the many others of Santaver's cora (Ercávica), but it was gradually gaining importance. The Christian king Alfonso VIII conquered it in 1177 and granted it the Fuero de Cuenca, one of the most prestigious in the history of Castile. Its economy focused on the textile industry, of great popularity during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, which produced a great constructive activity. However, the drapery sank in the seventeenth century, leading to a drastic loss of population, which was recovering over the next century. In 1833 it became the capital of the new province of Cuenca, although the turmoil of the period caused the city to remain in a precarious state until well into the twentieth century. At present, the economy focuses mainly on tourism, enhanced since its old town was declared a World Heritage Site in 1996.
Cuenca preserves an important historical and architectural heritage, which extends throughout the ancient city, although focused on buildings such as the cathedral or the Hanging Houses, which have become the symbol of the city. It is also characterized by having a good number of museums (more than ten) in the small space of the old city. These include the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, the Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha and the Museum of Cuenca. Among the main cultural events are Holy Week and Religious Music Week .

Church of San Andrés (Cuenca)
The church of San Andrés in Cuenca (Spain) was built in the 16th century under the direction of the architect Pedro de Alviz, who had the collaboration of the Master of Cantería Sebastián de Arnani.
The work stood still for a long time, until, at the end of the 16th century, Juanes de Mendizábal and his son-in-law, Pedro de Aguirre, set it in motion again.
The profound crisis that occurred in Cuenca in the first half of the 17th century had a negative impact on the work, which, until the end of the 17th century, did not resume. Moisture had seriously damaged walls and arches of the presbytery, and even seems to affect the foundation. Domingo Ruiz was in charge of presenting the conditions and traces of the repairs.
It is deconsecrated and is currently used to preserve some Easter passages in Cuenca.
In 1936 the temple suffered serious damage and after the civil war it was ceded to the brotherhoods, in order to house its processional steps.

newFranciscan Conception Monastery (Cuenca)
The monastery of the Franciscan Conception of Cuenca (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain) was already built in 1504, when Canon Alvar Pérez de Montemayor handed it to the Abbess. This monastery, following the wishes of the founder, was incorporated into the Order of the Immaculate Conception, in a manner similar to that of Toledo.
Canon Pérez de Montemayor established in the capitulations that the main chapel would serve as a burial for him and his family; although this one - both the Montemayor and the Sánchez de Teruel - had its own chapel in the church of Santa María de Gracia. When Don Álvaro died, he was buried in the main chapel, in front of the altar, in a sepulcher that the carver Diego de Flandes had worked, in 1512. The sepulcher, which we know by written testimony, was alabaster and contained the lying effigy of the founder accompanied of a page. He stood on some lions and adorned their foreheads with four shields held by children.
In 2001 the Monastery was declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the status of National Historic-Artistic Monument.

Church of the Holy Christ of Amparo
The Church of the Holy Christ of Amparo in Cuenca (Spain) was built at the end of the 16th century and is located in the Los Tiradores neighborhood. This neighborhood in the fifteenth century saw the arrival of humble people who approached the big city in search of work. The need to attend to this population moved the Church to promote the Cabildo de Santa Catalina del Monte Sinaí, as a hospital for the care of the shameful poor.
Where the current temple is located, some writers place the old Jewish synagogue, which presumably could be installed here, accompanying the Hebrew Cuenca on their journey, when they had to leave their primitive settlement next to the Plaza de Manzana.
The name of Santa Catalina has virtually disappeared, replaced by that of Cristo del Amparo, who leads the parish and the temple. The titular image, ancient, appeared before in a side chapel, while that of the Holy occupied the place of honor, but in the course of time it was gaining popular devotion the invocation of Jesus, until finally imposed.
