Castril House

Castril's house is a Renaissance palace located in the Spanish city of Granada, the autonomous community of Andalusia; it is currently the Archaeological Museum of Granada.
The house is nestled in the Darro race, in the old Arab neighborhood of Ajsaris, headquarters from the 16th century on behalf of the Granada nobility, as its emblazoned constructions show. La Casa de Castril is one of the best examples of Renaissance palaces in Granada and belonged to the family of Hernando de Zafra, secretary of the Catholic Monarchs who actively participated in the reconquest of the city to Muslims and in their Capitulations. On the top of the facade the date of its construction is engraved: 1539. This work has been attributed to Sebastián de Alcántara, one of the most outstanding disciples of Diego de Siloé. In 1917 the Casa del Castril was acquired from the heirs of the distinguished Arabist Leopoldo Eguílaz and Yanguas to finally locate the aforementioned Museum.
In addition, an old legend rests on the building, from when it was inhabited in the Arab era, which refers to a mysterious lady in white who appears from time to time, the result of a disagreement between the father of a beautiful girl who inhabited the building and his supposed lover, who unleashed the fury of the father and subsequently his hanging and walled on the side balcony of the building. On this blind balcony you can read a slogan that says: "Waiting for the one from heaven", which could refer to "waiting for the justice of heaven", which was probably related to the words that the supposed lover pronounced before being hanged.

Realejo-San Matías

Realejo-San Matías (or simply Realejo) is a neighborhood in the city of Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain, located in the old town, at the foot of the Alhambra on its southeast face. Jewish suburb of the Muslim city, when it was known as Garnata al-Yahud, "Granada of the Jews", and that when the Christians took the city, they renamed it Realejo, when they installed a military camp there, and, more specifically, where the king's or general's shop is. Historically it has two distinct parts: on the one hand, the flat area that retains very little of its old urban layout, evolved even before the Christianization; on the other, the high one, on the hillside of the Mauror hill, the one that descends from Torres Bermejas and that in 1410 gave shelter to the inhabitants of Antequera and therefore received the name of Antequeruela, which is still currently a maze of narrow streets so steep that many of them are staggered and with a multitude of single-family houses and grenadines (the origin of the Antequeruela is under discussion).
Of its walls and its doors, among which were the very famous of al Fajjarín and Neched, the Potters and the Mills, there is no rest left.

Sacromonte

The Sacromonte is a neighborhood in the city of Granada, in Spain, located in the eastern part of the capital of Granada. It is one of the six neighborhoods that make up the Albaicín district. The Sacromonte borders the neighborhoods of Albaicín, San Pedro, Realejo-San Matías, El Fargue and Haza Grande.
It is located in the Valparaíso Valley and in front of the Alhambra, emblematic places of Granada, which are located on each of the banks of the Darro River, whose name seems to derive from the expression "D'auro" ("golden") for its famous sedimentary deposits of this precious metal. It is a beautiful place composed of Mediterranean forest and riverside.
The Sacromonte is a picturesque and idyllic place, on the outskirts of the urban center of Granada and is the traditional suburb of the Granada gipsies. They speak in caló. Originally from India, they arrived in Spain in the 15th century, after wandering around Europe and Africa. Traditionally they lived in the famous caves of this neighborhood. They were portrayed with great mastery by the poet Federico García Lorca in his book 'Romancero Gitano'. The Interpretation Center of the Sacromonte-Museum of the Caves preserves in its original state 11 of these caves open to the public and explains the history and way of life of its inhabitants.
In the sixteenth century there was the discovery of a series of relics and texts, which together with the appearance of the plumb books on the mountain of Valparaíso caused the Sacromonte Abbey to be constituted. The famous Plúmbeos Books are now preserved in the Abbey, after they were returned by the Holy See.

Granada Museum of Fine Arts

The Museum of Fine Arts in Granada is the most important art gallery in that city, a city whose fame lies more in its monumental heritage than in the pictorial one. This explains the relative forgetfulness in which this institution has remained until recently.
The museum initially occupied the former Dominican convent of Santa Cruz la Real, being opened in 1839, so it is the oldest provincial art gallery in Spain. After several changes of location, since 1958 it has its headquarters in the Palace of Carlos V, notable Renaissance building annexed to the Alhambra.

Church of Santa Ana (Granada)

The Santa Ana church, also known as the church of San Gil and Santa Ana is a parish temple of the Catholic Church in Granada, autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is part of the set of Mudejar churches in the city; It is located on the left bank of the Darro River, in a small square attached to the space dominated by the Plaza Nueva, at the beginning of the Darro Race and at the foot of the Alhambra, near the Royal Chancery and the Pilar del Toro fountain, around the geographic coordinates 37 ° 10′38.97 ″ N 3 ° 35′40.13 ″ W.
It was built in 1537, as the seat of the parish of the same name, according to Diego de Siloé's project, the most renowned artist of the time in his area, on the expanded plot with the purchase of farms around the urban space where previously there was the Aljama Almanzora mosque. It basically consists of a single nave to which side chapels, main chapel and sacristy are attached. The tower, built between 1561 and 1563 by Juan Castellar, is, like the rest of the temple, brick, very slender, with four sections of holes centered on its main face, organized from least to greatest in their order of height, all with subtle decorative elements like alfiz that frame them superiorly.
The church has five chapels on each side of the nave covered with Mudejar coffered ceilings and a main chapel covered by loop armor. Inwardly it has incalculable artistic elements of value, with very interesting sculptural groups in the chapels, whose images include a Dolorosa by José de Mora made in 1671 or a Calvary by Diego de Aranda. Also notable are the paintings that are preserved in its walls, a work of the 16th and 17th centuries. In the sacristy a chalice is preserved, the work of Francisco Téllez from 1568 and an expired Crucified associated with the artistic work of Juan de Mena.
Another of the great architectural values of this church is on its main doorway to the square, traced by Sebastián de Alcántara in 1542 and later completed by his son Juan de Alcántara in 1547, running the image by sculptor Diego de Aranda
Located in its center behind a wide tier and made in Renaissance style, this cover is formed by a high semicircular arch flanked between Corinthian columns of striated spindle and on a basement, which support a ledge on which three niches are located with images, and on them a medallion or tondo with the image of the Virgin and the Child; The shields of the archbishop Fernando Niño de Guevara appear on the arches of the arch and under the strong cornice.
As anecdotal data within the history of this church, it should be said that Mariana Pineda (19th century) married, the popular heroine executed under the reign of Ferdinand VII, also preserving the remains of the Granada-born historian Francisco Bermúdez de Pedraza (16th century) , author of the Ecclesiastical History of Granada, by local sculptor and painter José Risueño (1665-1732), successor to the artistic line of Alonso Cano and the Renaissance poet and humanist Juan Latino.
This church of Santa Ana de Granada, where Mudejar and the Renaissance live together, is considered a Site of Cultural Interest, and its qualification as a monument was published by "La Gaceta de Madrid" in 1931. In 1842 the parish of Santa was suppressed Ana and her parishioner incorporated into the parish of San Gil. When it was demolished in 1869 the church of Santa Ana became the seat of the parish of San Gil. Since 1948 the parish is named of St. Gil and St. Anne by a repository of the Holy See dated April 9 of the same year.
As a curiosity, on the North facade (in front of the Darro river embankment), a typical kick cross of the Order of the Footwear Trinitarians is still preserved.
