Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca (officially Palma) is a Spanish city and municipality, capital of the island of Mallorca and the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It is also the seat of the judicial party number three of the province and of the diocese of Mallorca. It is located in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea and, within the island, to the southwest. It is located about 250 km east of the Iberian Peninsula.
Its municipal area occupies an area of 208.63 km² that extends between the Sierra de Na Burguesa and the Prado de Sant Jordi. The city is located in the center of the bay of Palma, about 13 meters high above sea level. Several torrents, like the Riera or Gros, cross it.
With 440 772 inhabitants (official data of the city council as of January 1, 2018), Palma is the eighth largest city in Spain by population and the first of the Balearic Islands. In addition, its metropolitan area encompasses nine locations that reach 560 240 inhabitants spread over an area of 1015.88 km², being the 14th in Spain.
It was founded with the name of Palma by the Roman consul Quinto Cecilio Metelo Baleárico in the year 123 a. C. It is estimated that its current settlement possibly corresponds to the Roman ruins under its historic quarter, although there is no irrefutable evidence. After other conquests by the Vandals and the Arabs In 903, it was finally conquered by King Jaime I of Aragon on December 31, 1229, becoming the prosperous Ciutat de Mallorca capital of his own kingdom, which declined after joining the Crown of Aragon in 1279.
In 1715 the New Plant Decrees entered into force, recovering the city its Roman place-name, Palma. Shortly after, in the twentieth century, he was the protagonist of the explosion of an intense tourist boom that used it as a holiday destination during the 1960s and 1970s. Nowadays it constitutes a remarkable economic and cultural center at the insular and regional level.

Cathedral of Santa Maria de Palma de Mallorca
The Cathedral-Basilica of Santa Maria de Palma de Mallorca also called Mallorca Cathedral is the main religious building on the island of Mallorca. In Mallorcan, it is known as La Seu (Seu or Seo is the name given to the cathedrals in the Crown of Aragon). It consists of a Gothic-Levantine temple built on the shore of the bay of Palma. It overlooks the sea on the Roman and Renaissance walls that protected the city, being the only Gothic cathedral that meets this peculiarity. It also consists of the headquarters of the diocese of Mallorca, its holder is the Assumption of Mary.
In 1931 it was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument. In addition, it is the cathedral with the largest rosette in the Gothic world, largest original rosette of all European Gothic cathedrals (13 meters in diameter), since there are cathedrals with larger rosettes (15m ) but they belong to the neo-Gothic, and also one of those with a higher-rise nave among European Gothic cathedrals. The building is huge, its vault reaches a height of 45 m only surpassed by the Beauvais Cathedral 48 m, the tallest Gothic cathedral in the world and slightly less than the height of the Milan Cathedral 45 m, instead it exceeds the Cathedral from Cologne 43 m. The building covers 6,655 m². The interior volume is 160,000 m³.
Its construction began in 1229, after the conquest of the island by the Crown of Aragon. King Jaime I, decided to tear down the old great mosque of Medina Mayurca to build a large temple dedicated to Santa Maria, because when a temporary fort exploded during the sea voyage to Mallorca to conquer it, he promised to build a cathedral in veneration if this saved them from death.
In 1346, it was King Jaime III, although the works and finishes continued many years later, since it was not finished until 1601, and, strictly speaking, it was continued (and continues) reforming and restoring every little time.

As in the Rambla de Barcelona, it consists of a central pedestrian promenade and two lanes for traffic on each side of the promenade, one for each direction of traffic. Also, as in Barcelona, on the promenade there are a dozen kiosks, belonging to the City Hall, which are under concession to sell plants and flowers.

newSpain Square (Palma de Mallorca)
The Plaza de España in Palma is a public space, the communications center of the Balearic capital, since the Intermodal Station is located there, a large part of the EMT lines, and a transfer center. It is also a meeting point and entrance to the city center.
In the square many roads and squares converge: the avenues of Juan March and Alexandre Rosselló, the Park of the Stations and the Eusebio Estada street. Where formerly the Palmesan walls were located is the Plaza de la Porta Pintada, which connects with San Miguel and Olmos streets.
The current name was put in the wake of the Franco victory in the civil war, replacing the old name of Porta Pintada, in memory of the Puerta de Santa Margarita, which was demolished in the early twentieth century. Name that was recovered by the part of the square in which the door 1985 was located.
