Pillar of the Horadada
Pilar de la Horadada (in Valencian, El Pilar de la Foradada) is a municipality in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community, Spain. Located at the southern end of the province, in the Vega Baja del Segura region, adjacent to the Region of Murcia, it is the most southern Valencian municipality and has 21,202 inhabitants (INE 2017). Until 1986, it belonged to the municipality of Orihuela.
Despite being a relatively young municipality, in its more than 20 years as an independent municipality, projects have been undertaken to provide the people with the necessary services. In politics, they have ruled parties of every political sign, both PSOE and PP, and the CDS. Economically, its development is due to two fundamental pillars: agriculture and residential tourism, without forgetting the commercial and services sector. It also owes much to the privileged climate that keeps the area in a kind of "constant spring", with average temperatures of 18 ° C, gentle breezes and the sun shining more than 3,200 hours a year.
