Polop, currently known as Polop de la Marina, is a municipality in the Valencian Community (Spain) located in the northeast of the province of Alicante, in the Marina Baja region.
During the Old Regime, Polop was an Aragonese stately barony. Barons de Polop is how those who exercised ownership of the manor were known. It was created by Jaime I of Aragon and granted to Mrs. Berenguela Alfonso de Castilla. The fief was in the hands of the House of Aragon until 1430 and the Fajardo family until the early nineteenth century.
