It was discovered in 1968 by the Torreblanca caving group, guided by several young people from the town. newSella River
The Sella River (in Asturian, Seya) is a short coastal river in northern Spain that flows into the Cantabrian Sea and runs through the provinces of León and Asturias.
Born in the Picos de Europa in the Fountain of Hell, in the place called Jonseya, belonging to the town and municipality of Oseja de Sajambre (León province) and flows into the Cantabrian Sea forming the Ribadesella estuary. It has a length of 66 kilometers and an average annual flow of 18.07 m³ / s. Its basin has an area of 1,284 km².
It crosses the councils of Oseja de Sajambre, Ponga, Amieva, Parres, Cangas de Onís and Ribadesella. It has been an important natural barrier in its region and in fact it is a border in almost all its route between these councils. Particularly between Parres and Cangas de Onís. This lack of communication was partially overcome with the medieval bridge, called «Puente Romano», which joins both margins in the city of Cangas de Onís. This bridge is considered one of the most emblematic images of Asturias.
