The Royal Institute and Observatory of the Navy (briefly known as ROA) is a scientific research and cultural dissemination center belonging to the Spanish Navy and located in the town of San Fernando (Cádiz). It fulfills the specific functions of astronomical and geophysical observatory, as well as being a training center for scientific personnel of the Spanish Navy and having a library that houses 30,000 volumes. Considered the oldest modern scientific center in Spain and one of the most important in the world, the Royal Institute and Observatory of the Navy was one of the most important examples of neoclassical architecture in the surroundings of Cádiz. The ROA building was built at the end of the 18th century on the Cerro de Torre Alta, architecturally characterized by its great simplicity and purity of lines. The current ROA headquarters replaced the previous one, located in Cádiz and of low altitude for astronomical observation.

Torre Alta or Torrealta is an old watchtower located in the town of San Fernando (Cádiz, Spain). It was part of the coastal watchtower system, ordered by Philip II to prevent the population from attacks by Berber pirates. This tower linked with the Tavira Tower of Cádiz.

The Castrenian Vatican Church of San Francisco, commonly known as the San Francisco church, is a military Catholic temple located in the city of San Fernando (Cádiz, Spain). The construction of this church dates back to the end of the 18th century, coinciding with the period of greatest boom of the Navy in the town. This building is located on Calle Real, the main road of this city, where other important constructions of it are located.
