Avignon Cathedral
The Notre-Dame-des-Doms Cathedral (Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon) is a Catholic religious building and national monument of France located in the city of Avignon (Vaucluse), north of the Palace of the Popes . It is part of the World Heritage Site since 1995, together with the Palace of the Popes, the Petit Palais and bridge over the Rhone
It belongs to the Romanesque style, mainly from the 12th century.
The eastern tower was destroyed in 1405, during the siege of the city by Pope Luna, but it was soon rebuilt. Chapels were added from the fourteenth century onwards, being the last reforms of the seventeenth century. The apse was demolished and rebuilt more extensively in the years 1671-1672, also taking ground to the old medieval cloister. It has baroque style stands, on the nave and in the choir.
Its most prominent feature is the statue of golden lead of the Virgin that crowns the western tower, bell tower since 1859. The mausoleum of Pope John XXII is one of the most beautiful works inside the cathedral, masterpiece of the Gothic carving of the fourteenth century . It is the seat of the archbishop of Avignon. Likewise, its portico stands out, which is close to ancient Roman art. In addition, it contains numerous works of art, sculptures but also furniture.

Avignon Walls
The walls of Avignon (in French, Remparts, that is, walls, defenses) is an old wall of the city of Avignon (France). It is part of the World Heritage Site since 1995, together with the Palace of the Popes, the cathedral, the Petit Palais and bridge over the Rhone.
They are in good condition, representing one of the best examples of medieval fortifications left. They were built by the popes in the fourteenth century. 39 solid towers and several doors can be seen, three of which are from the 14th century. The walls were rebuilt and reinforced several times in later centuries, having been restored in the nineteenth century under the direction of Viollet-le-Duc.
The set of defenses of the city are located on the northern side of the so-called Rocher des Doms, or rocky promontory on the Rhone in which the Palace of the Popes and the cathedral are located. Among its towers, the so-called Tour des Chiens ("Tower of the dogs") and the Tour du Chatelet stand out, which dominates the access to the Saint Bénézet bridge.
