Promenade de la Croisette
La Promenade de la Croisette or simply La Croisette is a Cannes boulevard that borders the bay and has a wide pedestrian walkway in the shade of the pine trees next to the beach. Built on the old coastal road called Chemin de la Petite Croix, it is known throughout the world due to the Cannes Festival and the Palace of Festivals, whose famous red carpet descends until the start of the walk. Most of the best hotels in the city are located on Boulevard de la Croisette, as well as luxury stores and major clothing brands.
La Croisette is also the name of the point at which the boulevard ends, which forms a cape that separates the bay of Cannes from that of Golfe-Juan, facing Santa Margarita Island. According to tradition, this name is due to the presence of a small cross at the tip of the cape, which the inhabitants of Cannes worshiped and to which the brotherhoods of penitents were in procession.
