Grenoble University

The Grenoble Alpes University (French: Université Grenoble Alpes) was a French university, founded in 1339 in the city of Grenoble, France, and suspended in 1793. After several attempts to reestablish it as a university, despite having faculties in operation, only In 1879 it again functioned as the University of Grenoble. In 1970 it was divided into several different institutions:

Grenoble I: Joseph Fourier University (Joseph Fourier University or UJF) that offers studies in the fields of science, health and technology.
Grenoble II: University Pierre Mendès France (Université Pierre-Mendès-France) specialized in social sciences
Sciences-Po Grenoble: Institute of Political Studies of Grenoble (Institut d'études politiques de Grenoble) associated with Grenoble II.
Grenoble III: Stendhal University (Université Stendhal) for humanities
Grenoble-INP: Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble or Groupe INP Grenoble, formerly INPG, National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble) for engineering. The different institutions share campuses and other facilities. Since 2010 there is a project to unify the five organizations that have not yet been carried out. Therefore, as of 1970, the name "University of Grenoble" (Université de Grenoble) does not refer to an educational institution with real administrative existence.
On September 11, 2015, the French Government published the merger decree of the three Grenoblenses universities, with an effective merger as of January 1, 2016. The new entity Grenoble-Alpes University was born.
