Marseilles
Marseille (Marseille in French [maʁ.sɛj], from Greek Μασσαλία, Massalia; in Provencal Occitan, Marselha or Marsiho) is a port city in southern France, capital of the department of Bocas del Rhone and in the Provence-Alpes region- Blue Coast.
Marseille is the second most populous city in France after Paris with 859 543 inhabitants, the main economic center and largest metropolis of the French Midday, grouping about 1 605 000 inhabitants in its urban area, being the third largest in the country, after Paris and Lyon . It is the most important commercial port in France and the Mediterranean, third in importance in Europe after Rotterdam and Antwerp, a center of important industrial activity specializing in petrochemicals and petroleum refining, shipbuilding and diverse industries, it is also a communications hub in which converge the routes between Paris, Italy, Switzerland and Spain. Marseille is home to an archdiocese and first-order university center founded in 1409.
Marseille was developed under the name of Massalia as a commercial colony founded by focense sailors around 600 BC. C., conserving the oldest remains of the viticulture of France introduced in the fourth century BC. C .. Headquarters of a viscounty in the 9th century dependent after the county of Provence, was incorporated into the crown of France in 1481 and took advantage of its strategic alliance with the Ottoman Empire during the Renaissance and the Old Regime. After the Revolution that baptized with the name of Marseille, the military march that later became one of the national symbols of France, the city was the scene of the so-called White Terror and during the 19th century, the scene of rapid progress with the expansion French colonial towards Algeria and the opening of the Suez Canal. It was partially destroyed during World War II and one of the objectives of Operation Dragoon. Traditional place of migration flows that were increasing the multicultural nature of the city, the economic crisis of the 1970s caused, however, a significant decrease in population, loss of purchasing power and the accentuation of social conflicts in the last quarter of the twentieth century to gradually recover as one of the most important cities in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Marseille-San Carlos Station
Marseille-San Carlos station [citation needed], (in French: Marseille-Saint-Charles), is the main railway station in the French city of Marseille. It was built by the French engineer Gustave Desplaces. It is linked to the city thanks to a monumental stone staircase built in 1925 and classified as a historical monument.
For a long time, and until the arrival of the plane, the station was forced to travel from Europe to North Africa and the Middle East, which usually used the port of Marseille. The arrival of high speed, in 2007, doubled its passenger traffic by allowing trips between Marseille and Paris in 3 hours.
