Montpellier (in French and officially: Montpellier [mɔ̃pəˈlje, mɔ̃pɛˈlje]; in Occitan: Montpelhièr) is a city in southern France, in the Occitania region and capital of the Hérault department. It is crossed by two rivers: the Lez to the east, and the Mosson to the west. According to 2009 data, it had a population of 287,392 inhabitants, which if included the metropolitan area added 607,857 inhabitants (2016) inhabitants.
In 2007 it was the eighth city in France because of its intra-wall population, it is one of the few among cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, whose population has increased steadily for fifty years, a period in which its population has doubled. From 2006 until today Montpellier earns 12,000 inhabitants annually.

The Fabre Museum (Musée Fabre) is the main art museum of the French city of Montpellier, capital of the department of Hérault.
The museum was founded by François-Xavier Fabre, painter of Montpellier, in 1825; It was opened to the public in 1828. In the five-year period 2002-2007, the museum underwent a thorough remodeling with a cost estimated at 61.2 million euros. It is one of the most prominent places in Montpellier and close to the main city square, Place de la Comédie, in the historic center. An annex to the museum, baptized with the name "Pavillon du musée Fabre" ("Pavilion of the Fabre museum") is open in a pavilion in the Esplanade.

It is the oldest botanical garden in France and is a member of the prestigious association Botanical Gardens of France and Francophone countries. Tower of the Babotte
The Tower of the Babotte, (in French: Tour de la Babotte) is a defensive construction, only rest, together with the Tower of the Pines (Tour des Pins) that remains of the walls of the French city of Montpellier. An astronomical observatory was installed in the 18th century. In the twentieth century the aforementioned observatory returned to activity. The tower is currently occupied by the Midi Popular Astronomy Federation.
