Tours (pronounced: / tuʀ /) is a French city in the Center-Loire Valley region, prefecture (capital) of the department of Indre and Loire. Its population is 136 578 inhabitants, and the population of its metropolitan area as a whole is 297 631 inhabitants.
Its inhabitants call themselves the Tourangeaux and the Tourangelles (formerly the Turons and the Turonnes). The region is often called "The garden of France".
