Chichester is a small city located in the south of England. Its population, according to the 2001 census, is 23,731 inhabitants. It has an area of 10.67 km². It is the capital of the county of West Sussex.
The most famous monument in Chichester is its cathedral, one of the most famous in the United Kingdom, dating from 1075. In it is buried San Ricardo de Chichester, who was bishop of the city. Since the Norman era it is an important episcopal seat.
The wool industry during the 16th century made Chichester a thriving villa, as well as its port that facilitated commercial exchange. The city retains an important collection of houses of the eighteenth century, but declined at the end of this century when the port was sanded and competition with textile imports.
