Nottingham Castle
The Nottingham Castle a castle located in Nottingham, England. It is located in a dominant position on a natural promontory known as Castle Rock, with cliffs 130 feet (40 m) high to the south and west. In the Middle Ages it was an important royal fortress and occasional royal residence. In decline since the 16th century, it was mostly demolished in 1649. The Duke of Newcastle built a mansion there, which was set on fire by agitators in 1831, ruined. It was later rebuilt to house an art gallery and museum, which are still in use. Little of the original castle survives, although the remains allow to have an impression of the plant of the place.
