Southampton / saʊθˈæmptən or saʊθˈhæmptən / is a city and unitary authority of southern England (United Kingdom) and one of the main ports of the United Kingdom. It is located approximately halfway between Portsmouth and Bournemouth, and about 110 km southwest of London. It is the closest city to the New Forest National Park. It is located at the north end of Southampton Water, at the mouth of the Test and Itchen rivers. Its port is famous for having been the starting point of the Titanic in its tragic inaugural journey.
