Torquay
Torquay (/ tɔːrˈkiː / tor-KEE) is a town on the south coast of England, belonging to the county of Devon and extending along the coast of Torbay. In the 19th century it was known as the English Reviera for its healthy climate.
The town was called by the quay (quay in English) of the nearby town of Torre. Among the various origins of the name of Torre, the most accepted is the word torr or tower, from ancient English (from the Celtic) and which designates the small hills of the southwest of England. It is present in several place names of Devon and Cornwall. Torquay's original name was Fleet, today preserved in the name of its main road, Fleet Street.
