Spoleto
Spoleto (former Spoletium) is an ancient city of central Italy, in the province of Perugia (Umbria region), 385 m above sea level in the foothills of the Apennines. Its population, according to the 2003 census is 38,000 inhabitants. The city is a tourist center and the annual headquarters of the Festival of the Two Worlds (Festival dei Due Mondi), organized since 1958 by the Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti.
The church of San Salvatore is part of a group of seven sites known as «Centers of power of the longobards in Italy (568-774 AD)», declared World Heritage by UNESCO on June 25, 2011 .

It was the gateway to the city forum from the Via Flaminia (next to the place where the Market Square is located today), surpassing the thistle.
