Hamrun (in Maltese Ħamrun) is a local council and a city in the Inner Harbor region of Malta, with a population of 11,195 inhabitants (1995).
Villagers are traditionally known as Tas-Sikkina (which literally means "knife" or "those who carry a knife"). This denomination derives from assuming that a considerable number of villagers used to work as dockers on the docks and, therefore, carried a knife at all times.
