Krakow

Krakow (in Polish, Kraków [ˈkrakuf]) is the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (Województwo małopolskie) and one of the largest, oldest and most important cities in Poland. Located on the banks of the Vistula River, it has a population of 766,000 inhabitants (3 million in its metropolitan area), which makes it the second most populous city in Poland.
Krakow has traditionally been one of the economic, scientific, cultural and artistic centers of the country. For much of Polish history it was the capital. Therefore, it is still the heart of Poland for many citizens. Currently, Krakow is a very important center of local and international tourism, with more than eight million tourists a year. The historic center of Krakow was declared, together with the historic center of Quito, as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1978. It was also the European Capital of Culture in 2000.
Krakow was the headquarters of the World Volleyball Championship in 2014 and the European Handball Championship of 2016. The city has also been chosen as the European Sports City in 2014 and as the venue for the World Day of Youth of the year 2016.

Kraków Główny Station

Krakow City Hall Tower
