Albufeira is a Portuguese city belonging to the district of Faro, region of the Algarve, with about 19,500 inhabitants in its main nucleus and about 40,000 within its municipality. The name Albufeira comes from the Arabic name al-Buhera which means sea castle.

Albufeira was a Portuguese freguesía of the council of the same name, Albufeira, has 26.49 km² of area and 16.237 inhabitants (2001). Density: 612.9 inhabitants / km². During the national administrative reform of 2013, it was merged with the Freguesia of Olhos de Água to give rise to a new one, Albufeira and Olhos de Água.
