Sibiu

Sibiu (in Latin: Cibinium, in Hungarian: Nagyszeben, in German: Hermannstadt) is the largest municipality and the capital of the district of Sibiu, in Romania. It is an important economic and cultural center of Transylvania, and between 1692 and 1791 it was the capital of the Principality of Transylvania. He has the title of martyr city. According to the 2009 census it has a population of 154,548 inhabitants. The Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt, passes through the city. The winter resort of Păltiniş is 37 kilometers away, and is managed by the Sibiu municipal council.
It was founded by Saxon settlers in the twelfth century, who gave it the name of Hermannstadt. Consequently, part of its architecture is Germanic. According to statistics, 1.6% of the population of Sibiu is of Saxon origin. Before World War II it was the most important city for the German minority in Romania.
The Sibiu authorities, of Saxon origins, have carried out a series of important reforms that have made Sibiu one of the cities with the best quality of life in Romania. In 2007 it was, together with Luxembourg, European Capital of Culture.

Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu

The Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (in Romanian: "Lucian Blaga" din Sibiu University) is a higher education institution in Sibiu, Romania. The university was founded in 1990 and named in honor of the poet and philosopher Lucian Blaga. At first it consisted of five faculties: Letters, History and Law, Medicine and Textile and Food Technology Process, Engineering and Science. The other faculties were added later.
The slogan of the university is Mens agitat molem (The mind controls matter) taken from Virgil's Aeneid.

Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sibiu)

The Holy Trinity Cathedral, (in Romanian, Catedrala Sfânta Treime din Sibiu), located on Mitropoliei Street No. 35 in the city of Sibiu, Romania, is the seat of the Romanian Orthodox archbishopric of Sibiu and the metropolis of Transylvania.
