Chemnitz (/ ˈkɛmnɪt͡s /) is a city in the German federal state of Saxony on the banks of the Chemnitz River (hence its name), 69 km southeast of Leipzig. With almost 245,000 inhabitants (2007), Chemnitz is the third largest city in the state after Leipzig and Dresden. Between 1953 and 1990, during the term of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) the city was named Karl-Marx-Stadt (City of Karl Marx).

Karl Marx Monument

The Karl Marx Monument (in German, Karl-Marx-Monument) is a stylized bust of Karl Marx of 7.10 m (with support of more than 13 meters) high and about 40 tons of plastic High strength, built by Lev Kerbel.
