Cochem is a small town in the federated state Rhineland-Palatinate, in western Germany, capital of the rural district (Landkreise) Cochem-Zell. It is located in the Moselle river valley, at the foot of a hill topped by a feudal castle, the Reichsburg dating from 1051.

The city is known for being a tourist destination in its country and for the wines produced in the region.
Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, operated by low-cost airlines, has recently benefited the tourism development of the region. The city is 12 km from the A48 motorway that connects Koblenz with Trier.
It is also accessible by train. The Kaiser-Wilhelm-Tunnel, built in 1877 with a length of 4,205 m in length on the railway line that connects Trier with Koblenz along the Moselle valley, is located at the north exit of 1985, until 1985.
