Weimar

Weimar is a city of the federated state of Thuringia in Germany, known for its rich cultural heritage. It is located on the banks of the River Ilm and at the foot of the Ettersberg mountain north of the Thuringian Forest. The city is divided into thirteen districts.
Weimar was the center of the Bauhaus movement. The work of the Bauhaus in Weimar and Dessau were named a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996.
All the buildings known as Classic Weimar were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, highlighting the high artistic quality of both the buildings and the public and private parks in the city and its surroundings, which testify to the remarkable cultural flowering of the classical period in Weimar. The patronage of the Dukes of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach attracted many prominent writers and scholars from Germany, making Weimar the main European cultural center of the time.
The city was selected European Capital of Culture in 1999.

Duchess Ana Amalia Library

The Duchess Ana Amalia Library (in German: Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek) was founded in 1691 under the name of "Ducal Library" by Duke Guillermo Ernesto de Saxony-Weimar. In 1991, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of its foundation, she was awarded the name of Duchess Ana Amalia for having been her top sponsor. The library is famous for its elaborate three-level Rococo room. In 1998 the library was named a World Heritage Site by Unesco as part of the set of buildings called Classic Weimar.

Weimar Palace

Weimar Palace (in German: Schloss Weimar) is located in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany. Now it is called Stadtschloss to distinguish it from other palaces of Weimar and its surroundings. It was the residence of the Dukes of Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach, and was also called Residenzschloss, Palace of the Grand Dukes or City Palace.
