Ajuria Enea

Ajuria Enea is a palace in Vitoria (Basque Country, Spain) that constitutes the official residence of the Lendakari of the autonomous community of the Basque Country. Its name comes from the separation in two words of Ajuriaenea, denomination Euskera that is composed of the family name that built the palace (the Ajuria) declined in Basque in the form of the genitive, coming to mean ‘of Ajuria’.
The decision to convert the palace of Ajuria Enea into the official residence of the Lendakari was made based on the architectural values of the building, according to the political function to which it was intended. It was on October 13, 1980 when the Basque Government formalized the acquisition of the land from its former owner, the Provincial Council of Alava. That same year, Carlos Garaikoetxea, first president after the Franco dictatorship, officially occupied the building.

Augustín-Zulueta Palace

The Augustín Palace is located in Vitoria (Álava, Spain).
From the very center of the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz begins a sequence of walks that reach the basilica of Armentia and seeking the countryside-city relationship. This search is reflected in the set of single-family buildings, villas, small hotels and country houses that are being built at the beginning of the 20th century on the margins of these walks.
In this environment, the walk of Fray Francisco, Don Ricardo Augustín builds his house in 1912. The project is written by the architects Julián de Apráiz and Javier Luque, designers of the new cathedral of Vitoria-Gasteiz and restorers of that of Burgos.
The project is designed with a marked historicist character. It seeks, following the trends of the beginning of the century, the exaltation of vernacular values, but without giving up the geometric clarity and purity of volumes. The monumentality in the definition of the details catches the attention of the observer, leaving the memory of a complex work and that, on the contrary, is simple and schematic of drawing.
