Heidelberg Palace
Heidelberg Palace or Heidelberg Castle (in German: Heidelberger Schloss)? It is a castle of medieval origin partially in ruins of Germany and monument of Heidelberg. The palace buildings are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps.
The palace has been rebuilt only partially since it was demolished in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is located 80 meters above the northern slope of the Königstuhl, and therefore dominates the view of the old city. It is reached by an intermediate station of the Heidelberger Bergbahn funicular that runs from the Kornmarkt of Heidelberg to the summit of Königstuhl.
The oldest building dates from before 1214 and was later extended to two castles around 1294. In 1537, lightning destroyed the upper castle. The current buildings had been expanded in 1650, before the damage caused by wars and subsequent fires. In 1764, another ray destroyed some of the reconstructed sections.

Hortus Palatinus
The Hortus Palatinus, or Garden of the Palatinate, was a Baroque garden designed in the Italian Renaissance style for Heidelberg Castle, Germany. Commissioned by Federico V, Elector Palatino in 1614 for his new wife, Isabel Estuardo, the garden acquired a reputation throughout Europe for its landscape design.
In 1612, Frederick V spent six months in England (to marry Isabel) and there he met landscape architect Inigo Jones and French engineer and architect Salomon de Caus in the court of King James I.
An important obstacle to its construction was the pronounced terrain around the castle, which was not only a landscape challenge, but also of hydraulics and engineering (the two specialties of Salomon de Caus), who built numerous fountains throughout the garden [1 ] And several artificial caves, some of which have been used as a sample of mystical symbolism inspired by the legendary secret order of the Rosicrucian.
After their defeat in the battle of the White Mountain, Federico and his wife had to flee to The Hague and the Hortus Palatinate project stopped completely, with Caus fleeing to Paris.
The city of Heidelberg suffered greatly during the Thirty Years War, as it was besieged in 1622, and the gardens were used by artillery to bombard the city.
