Winchester
Winchester (/ ˈwɪntʃɪstər /) is a city located in the extreme south of England. It is the administrative capital of Hampshire County. Headquarters of the local government of district 12.
The city has important historical buildings such as the Cathedral, its construction began in the eleventh century and was completed in the sixteenth century; the Great Hall, the only existing remnant of the Royal Palace; and Winchester College, a private school built in 1382.
The Great Hall was rebuilt sometime between 1222 and 1235. It is known because the round table of King Arthur was supposedly hung on its walls. The current table is dated in the fourteenth century so it is not contemporary with the king. Despite that, it remains one of the main attractions for tourists. The original table was not painted. King Henry VIII ordered that it be painted in the year 1522. The names of the knights are written around the table.
