Düsseldorf (/ ˈdʏsl̩dɔɐ̯f /) is a city in Germany, capital of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It has a population of 617 280 inhabitants.
It limits to the north with the city of Duisburg, to the east and to the south with the district of Mettmann, and to the west with the district of Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The city is crossed by the Rhine, is the core of a metropolitan area and is the economic center of West Germany. It is also known for its Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts, with figures such as Joseph Beuys, Emanuel Leutze, August Macke, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke and Andreas Gursky. In 2012, the consulting firm Mercer placed it as the sixth city with the highest quality of life in the world.

The Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts (in German, Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf) is the Düsseldorf City Academy of Arts. He is well known for having produced many famous artists, such as Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Wolf Vostell, Thomas Demand and Andreas Gursky. The words "Für unsere Studenten nur das Beste" ("For our students only the best") are engraved on the stairs to the main entrance.

NRW.Bank (listed as NRW.BANK) is the Landesförderinstitut (development bank) of North Rhine-Westphalia, based in Düsseldorf and Münster. Legally it is a public institution. It is owned by the federated state of North Rhine-Westphalia and structurally supports it in its political and economic tasks.
