Church of San Bartolomé (Jávea)
The church of San Bartolomé, located in the Plaza de la Iglesia de Jávea (Province of Alicante, Spain) is a fortified religious building whose origins on the apse tower date from the 14th century, being the Valencian Gothic building, built in the 16th century, with works directed by Domingo de Urteaga.
In medieval times this church was the main element of defense and perfectly fulfilled its two objectives, defending the population and covering the religious needs of the people.
The temple is built entirely in local sandstone, known as rough stone, and extracted mostly, according to tradition, from the Carved Cova, located at sea level under the Cape of San Antonio.
Currently, it is considered as BIC (Property of Cultural Interest) (it was declared a historical-artistic monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasury by decree of June 3, 1931 ).
