Red Wall (Calpe)

The Red Wall in Calpe (Alicante) Spain, is a building of the architect Ricardo Bofill Levi located in the Urbanization La Manzanera. Its construction was completed in 1973 although, according to the architect's own words, its design began ten years earlier.
The configuration of the building, in an evocation of the constructivist aesthetic, engenders a series of courtyards communicated with each other from where the houses are accessed. The solariums, a swimming pool and sauna are distributed on the roof terraces.
Its composition responds to a geometric plan based on the Greek cross typology that is grouped in various ways leaving the service towers at the intersection of the crosses. In itself it is a clear reference to the popular Mediterranean and Arab architecture, in particular to the North African adobe towers and the Casbah. The criterion of applying a varied color range to the building starts from the purpose of giving a particular relief to the different architectural elements according to their structural function.
The building is listed in the municipality of Calpe with the level of Integral protection.
In 2012 an exhibition was held on the building called "Red Wall", carried out at the initiative of the municipality of Calpe, it could be visited first in the municipality itself and then in the Museum of the University of Alicante (MUA). The origin of the contents of this exhibition is in the course work of a group of students of the Architectural Projects subject of the University of Alicante coordinated by Professor Adriana Figueras and the architect Diana Gómez. The starting point was the analysis of the building, but from this different works were carried out that make up the body of the exhibition, as proposals for interventions in the surroundings of the building, the extension of important values of the property to the rest of the municipality of Calpe or completely new and geographically independent projects but based on The Red Wall.

Morro de Toix

The Morro de Toix is a cape of the Mediterranean coast of the Valencian Community between the towns of Calpe (Marina Alta) and Altea (Marina Baixa).
Located north of the bay of Altea and south of the bay of Calpe, the Toix hill constitutes the termination in the sea of the Bernia mountain range. Geologically it corresponds to the plane of a fault that is part of a set of fractures that break the Sierra de Bernia in its eastern part. The cliffs, with about 200 meters above the sea, represent a sector of high coast, with stony coves and erosion caves beaten by the incessant waves. On the slope that overlooks the bay of Altea are remains of old fisheries. According to the General Plan of Urban Planning of Calpe it is a non-developable space of special protection, although the slope that overlooks the bay of Calpe is mostly urban land.
The Order of June 13, 2001, DOCV of August 7, 2001 of the Ministry of Environment delimits the microreservation of flora of the Morro de Toix.
Priority species: Asperula paui subsp. dianensis, Sarcocapnos saetabensis, Silene hifacensis, Scabiosa saxatilis subsp. saxatilis and Teucrium buxifolium subsp. Hifacense.
The Mascarat Pass is nearby.
