Santa Eulalia (Hospitalet de Llobregat)

Santa Eulàlia is a neighborhood of Hospitalet de Llobregat, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. It is classified territorially within District III, together with the neighborhood of Granvia Sud.
It borders to the east with the Barcelona neighborhood of La Bordeta, with which it shares the street of the Riera Blanca; to the north, with La Torrassa; to the west, with Sant Josep and El Centro, to the south, with El Gornal and Granvia Sud.
Santa Eulalia is the most populous neighborhood in the city. Since the 1990s, it has undergone a great urban transformation with the construction of equipment that takes advantage of land previously dedicated to industrial activity. Santa Eulalia Street and Carrilet Avenue are the nerve and communication centers.

The neighborhood has a sculpture by Josep Maria Subirachs, popularly known as «the Pinza», due to its shape, which welcomes the city when accessed from the street of Santa Eulalia. The sculpture represents the cross of the martyrdom of Santa Eulalia in Barcelona. There is also a Romanesque church of the twelfth century, Santa Eulalia de Provenzana, restored in the eighteenth century, around which the origins of the city are located. It is located at the west end of the neighborhood.
The growth of the Santa Eulàlia neighborhood was the result of the rapid implementation of industries since the end of the 19th century. Due to its proximity to Barcelona, it was divided into three railway lines (Barcelona-Martorell since 1955, that of Vilanova since 1881 and the one that led to Igualada since 1912). Urban fragmentation with so many lines forced the Hospitalet City Council, in 1935, to build a bridge. It was an industrial area, especially textile, with companies such as Can Trinxet, Tèxtil Pareto, Godó and Trias etc., and, since the end of the 60s, the Cottet optics factory.
The Trinxet factory, built in 1907 by the architect Joan Alsina i Arús, was owned by Avelino Trinxet Casas, also owner of the Trinxet House (Barcelona, 1904) by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and with frescoes by Joaquín Mir Trinxet. Currently the factory space has been recovered for other residential and equipment services, maintaining a part of the modernist construction.
